4-in-1 Rolling Shower Wheelchair Commode Chair for Seniors & Adults

Got this for the spare downstairs bathroom at my grandma’s house because she already has an electric standing/lift one upstairs, but we needed a more standard option downstairs that was still safe, sturdy and easy to use. After setting it up and having a proper look over it, I’d say it’s a very decent bit of kit overall and does feel like it’s been made with actual daily use in mind rather than just being thrown together.

First thing I noticed was the build quality. It feels solid. The aluminium frame doesn’t feel flimsy or wobbly, the arms lock into place nicely, and the whole thing gives off that “this should last” kind of impression. For something that’s going to be used by an elderly person, that matters a lot more than fancy looks. It feels secure, which is honestly the main thing. Once it’s in place, it doesn’t feel cheap at all, and you can tell where some of the money has gone.

The wheels are smooth enough and the lockable castors are a good feature. It’s handy if it needs to be repositioned slightly, and once the brakes are on, it feels stable. The drop arms are probably one of the best parts of it because they make transfers much easier and less awkward. That was one of the main reasons this one stood out, especially for a bathroom setup where you want as little faff as possible. The backrest is supportive enough too, and the general shape feels practical rather than clinical in a harsh way.

It’s also useful that it can do more than one job. For us, it was mainly for toilet use downstairs, but the fact it can also work as a commode chair or shower chair makes it feel a bit more versatile than some of the more basic options. The removable bucket is straightforward enough and doesn’t feel like an afterthought. It’s all been laid out in a way that makes sense.

Now, the honest downsides. First one is the price. It is quite pricey considering the alternatives on the market. There are definitely cheaper commode chairs and mobility chairs around, so I did hesitate a bit. That said, once it arrived, I could see why it costs more than the really basic ones. The price is reflected in the build quality. It feels sturdier, more substantial, and generally better made than the bargain-bin versions. So yes, expensive, but not in a way that feels completely unjustified.

The other big thing is the weight. This thing is very heavy. That does make it extremely sturdy, which is great once it’s where you want it, but because of its weight it is not made to be moved easily and you definitely need a bit of strength to do it. It’s not something you’re going to casually lift and shift around the house all the time. If you’re expecting something light and easy to carry between rooms, this probably isn’t it. For us that wasn’t a total dealbreaker because it was meant for one bathroom, but it’s worth knowing.

The seat is the one part I’m less impressed by. It’s usable, but it is very hard. That’s probably my biggest complaint. For quick use it’s fine, but for comfort, especially for an older person, it really could do with some sort of cushion so it’ll be softer once she sits down. As far as helping my elderly mother/grandma, that would make a big difference. If there was a cushion made specifically to fit this model, that would be great, because that would probably sort the main comfort issue straight away.

Overall though, I still think this is a good product and I’d give it 4 stars. It’s sturdy, well made, feels reliable, and it works well for what we needed in a spare downstairs bathroom. It’s not the cheapest option, and it’s definitely heavier than expected, plus the seat could be much softer, but if you want something that feels secure and more heavy-duty than the flimsier alternatives, this is actually a pretty good choice.

This is such a handy product to have for home use. Hospice provided my Dad with a bedside commode, but this one is so much more sturdy and stable. And the fact that it doubles as a shower chair is a bigger bonus. No one wants to purchase things like this- let’s be honest. But they are sometimes NEEDED. And I’m glad we have this on hand now.

I rate this 3-in-1 chair with wheels as 4 stars because it’s a wonderful choice for anyone navigating mobility challenges. I was expecting the shipping box to be much larger and heavier, but it arrived in a perfectly manageable size and weight that I could easily carry myself. It’s built from sturdy aluminum with safety and comfort in mind, featuring a safety strap, easy wheel locking capabilities, a foldable foot rest and cushions for the back, seat and armrests. It works as a wheelchair, bath chair, and commode chair all rolled into one, providing great versatility. While we don't have a need for the commode function just yet though, it’s a reassuring feature to have for the future. Its adjustable design allows me to customize the height and reposition the armrests, which makes the entry and exit process much less demanding. Additionally, the larger and strengthened wheels glide very well over various flooring types, further reducing the physical strain of transporting a loved one. We really like how user-friendly and supportive it is, and genuinely hope it lasts for the long haul.

Easy to assemble it is very heavy but sturdy and has excellent stability and comfort easy to clean and holds a decent amount of weight.

My dad is 5'4" and shrinking. This was working great until he couldn't lift his arms that high, i was not able to adjust the bar lower and so eventually I couldn't use it anymore. Also I wish there was a way to "lock" the seats down. When he wiggled and bounce while seated, a gap could open up and he can fall through. Other than that this is a great price for a good product where the ones in the hospital (called a Sara Stedy Patient Lift) cost over $1000.
